Abu Simbel Temple Getting Ready for Sun Festival on October 22
Archaeologist Ahmed Masoud, the chief inspector of Abu Simbel antiquities, announced preparations to receive the astronomical phenomenon of the sun’s alignment with the Temple of Ramses at Abu Simbel on October 22 of this year.
Masoud stated that preparations for celebrating the phenomenon include completing restoration work, mechanical and chemical cleaning of the temple, commencing the development of the lighting system, expanding the green area, and improving the roads leading to the temples.
The solar alignment phenomenon or sun festival is a unique event that occurs only twice a year, on October 22 and February 22. Thousands of years ago, the ancient Egyptians were able to record this engineering marvel with great precision inside the Abu Simbel Temple.
